Shelf Life Control

We are reviewing our shelf life policy and have the following items listed as shelf life sensitive: Printed circuit boards, peelable solder mask, solder paste, moisture sensitive parts, multiwire printed circuit boards from Icon or Hitachi, NiCd batteries, electrolytic capacitors.

Do you know of a more extensive listing? [We know that the US DOD / EPA/ etc have a self life program, but can not glean useful information from all the flotsam and jetsam.] Are there other items that you shelf life control that are not on this list?

K: Do you shelf life control rolled solder because of the flux core?

Nope -- we don't shelf life control roll solder here. Just threw that on the list as a possible.

I don't think it would be necessary.

Any adhesive tape, or stuff that uses it in packaging, like radial and axial parts. Ever try to get 5 year old 1/2 watt resistors to hold still in an axial sequencer dispense head? Yeesh.

We got dinged in a ISO 9000 audit for not having shelf life on locktite threadlock at my previous employer.

From Kester's web site:

"Flux cored solder wire has a limited shelf life determined by the alloy used in the wire. For alloys containing more than 70% lead, the shelf life is two years from date of manufacture.

Other alloys have a shelf life of three years from date of manufacture."

Of course you've probably already found this out from your vendor....
