Hi Narksh,

Well, for a quick over view, I'd suggest conveyors between all your equipment too. Also board handling equipment like bare board loader, buffers, shuttles...

It really depends on how focused you want to get. When choosing any part of the line, board size plays a major part of the equation.

Next is board population and complexity. If you have thru-hole you may either need a wave solder machine or selective solder. And yes you can put these in line with your surface mount line, but then it depends on you tact time and production schedule.

It can get far more complicated than this and every manufacturer / product is unique. But from a quick glance overview, this would be a start.

Hi,

Yes, a lot of this comes down to budget. Are you doing a "line" or is your budget only allow for batch processing? You will need to provide some more info.

You required the process control equipments. 1) Paste Height Checker: To measure the solder paste thickness after printing. 2) Temperature Profiler: To measure the reflow oven temperature whether is within the control spec.

In addition to that, a pick and place machine and reflow oven. For a pick and place unit, I would recommend http://www.chiphua.com/manualsmt.html . Need a reflow oven? Look no further than http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/present.php?p=Reflow%20Toaster

Now that's a line.

Hi,

If your doing a line, then your going to need more than the simple prototyping machines listed above in this thread. (Although they are cool ideas, and loved the toaster oven modification guy, and the other guy soldering ic's with it too!)

We are using a DEK stencil printer, 4 XP series Fuji machines, a Soltec 10 zone oven, and Soltec wave for soldering connectors. That works great for us, is extremely accurate and stable, and we do about 6 product change overs a day with single sided boards.

Others on the forum will be able to suggest similar configurations they use and know and how stable that is based on the equipment they use.

What your asking is a complex problem because there are so many options, and people tend to fall in love with what they have experienced in the past. I have fallen in love with the Fuji machines and would buy them again without a problem, and I love the Soltec oven which works great too.

Your choose is going to be based on your budget, and what you can get for your money. Fuji is expensive, but after visiting Taiwan, it was what the big factories were using for high volume, and that's what we are doing as well, so was a good choice.

Supports important too, so your going to have too look at that before you decide. Check out past threads here on the forum, as there is some great advice here.

Good luck.

As you are new to this - start with lots of hair and slowly reduce.

Start with one good person.

Spend the money on someone who knows the process, can set it all up, (including air, power, alignment, calibration, programming, troubleshooting, stencils, paste, profiles, maintenance, plus whatever). They may even be able to run the damn thing. Wave soldering ability could be an added but unlikely bonus. See if they can read the entrails of a chicken before pursuing this path.

Someone who can deal with designers, suppliers, customers and management whether internal or external. Nobody can deal with QA.

Someone who has contacts in the industry to help with the ridiculous expectations you have just burdened them with.

Their hirsuteness is neither here nor there.

Well said. But Not to forget, get the business in act before. What is your customers expectations? What is your customers needs? What do you need to get around? Can you fulfill this? And the big question; do you have a market after making all the calculations? /
