Hi C-Dig,

Are you testing circuit boards on a static mat? It could be conductive, which might short things out. I've seen this happen to our bench techs. You might want to look at getting a set of helping hands. The gizmo that actually holds the board by the edges. You might have to ground any chassis grounds out if you go this route, but may help.

probably has something more to do with a wrong component

Check the torque spec. on them bolts.

It's possible that your lead-free solder will stick to mounting bolts more than SnPb solder. Lead-free solder has a high tin content. Tin is a very good solvent.

You may need to coat the bolts with a solder mask to prevent the solder from sticking.

i mean Bolts in the eletrectical meaning. you know B=current plus resistor. That rohas soulder seem to stick to the pdb-board though

Hey Coky D,

When you say "bolts", do you mean "volts"? I took it as a spelling error.

what in blue blazzes is going on here? i here what youre saying but cant pick up what youre lying down! Why in gods gravey would you wantto solder on a static mat? You can degrade the mat if your solder burn threw it. I asked our all noing macanical guy here Pop Rivits and he suggested not soldering your bolts cause it will do nothing to fasten them any tighter. He's a Devry guy so he probubly nos as much as you about things lke this and then a little more cause hes still going to skool. Locktight is what he suggested.

Cant help but just notice that RoHaaS affects more then just solder joint reliability. As long as the mat is green all should be just fine.

Sorry couldnt resist

I will take a stab at translating.

I test PCBs on a static mat but the test does not work. The output voltage is at the wrong level. Could the solder being leadfree be the cause of this?

My answer. Not directly. But if your company is using a tin/lead solder profile with leadfree paste, you could have a problem with cold solder joints. Even then I doubt it would lead to incorrect voltage levels. I would expect other problems.

Personally I think it's more likely that whatever fumes you are exposed to could also be causing your problem.
