We are looking into switching SMT adhesives, because of the lead time with our current supplier. So if you are using one that you would recommend, please let me know.

We are dispensing with a glue machine ( Universal GDM )

Thanks in advance!

Hey DBack! The 80's called. They want their pump dispensing for SMT adhesive process back! That, and the feathered hair, parachute pants and Members' Only jacket...

Just kidding..

Hey, why not screen print glue? Currently, it's a very mature and proven process. Much more repeatable than pump dispensing.

Actually, you just decribed what I am wearing, down to the hair! Are you a co-worker? Anyway...

Without going into details, that is the process that we currently have and will continue to use, because it has worked for our application.

So, with that in mind, do you have any suggestions for the type of glue that you are using, used or have hands on experience with?

It has been my experience that Loctite is the best. Call their tech support people for the product best suited for your machine.

We use Loctite 3609 chipbonder. Works well for us.

Yuppers. Back in the "late '90s" at my last company, we, too, used loctite's chipbonder with our GDM positive displacement pump. It works okay for that application.

We've used the Loctite as well.

We're currently using Heraeus 955. It's worked well, and it's is less expensive. John S.

They still make SMT adhesive?!?!?! Holy SMOKES BATMAN.

I haven't used SMT adhesive in, oh 9 years. But, back in "The Day", I found loctite to be best. Call your local rep in, show them your process and make them earn their money.

Loctite 3609 is a pretty good smt adhesive. I'd actually recommend the Loctite 3621 instead though. It's a better adhesive on some of those pain parts plus it's actually less expensive than the 3609

Wait...stop! Some adhesives will void when cured... some common branks... maybe already mentioned. Heraeus PD955 will minimize voiding when curing the adhesive. Voiding can have devestating consequences....learned from experience. Another key is keeping the cure ramp rate down below 1 degree/sec. Keep peak temp 125-135.

Wow, I've never heard of this. If it voids during cure you either have a hot profile or bad adhesive. We use Loctite Chip Bonder. No problems.

SMT adhesive is hydroscopic. Some types absorb moisture faster than others.

Moisture+SMT adhesive= pourous adhesive after cure. Excessive cure ramp rates can also contribute to porosity.

Guess I've been spoiled using Loctite brands for the past 20 years. (Not an advertisement - unless they wanna pay me!)

Good luck. Loctite will work just fine if other combinations of variables do not allow voiding or electromigration.

What? D Wanzek works for Heraus?!?!? Jeez, these f*cking snakes in the grass around this site are just too much.

I guess I should've realized it when he started blathering about the product, it's part name, spec and the whole bunch of crap sales guys ooze outta their mouths.

Sorry for carrying on someone elses free advertisement. Besides, I tried Heraus and it didn't work, made our product fail test, and supposidly killed our company pet. Them Haraus bastards!

Hi Huss,

Didn't you notice the names, "D Back" and "D Wanzek"? Pretty typical way to start a convo and make it work for yourself.

I have been using the Heraus paste for almost ten years. At the time we picked it, it and Loctite seemed like the only options. It was a lot less $$ than Loctite. Is there a noticable difference in performance? I think the Loctite was about 2X the price back then.

since 1999 we use Heraeus PD944, in time we tested Loctite also but had some issues with it - or with our machine specialist :)) we dispense with Fuji CP (2 , 3 & 4) it only creates problems when its on the solder pads ;-) best wishes

Hope you found an adhesive that works for you Dback.

Thought I felt sharp pain in my back for awhile as did not follow up on this string. Then again, a response may prolong the pain, oh well figured a need for accurate information.

FYI for RealHussSamir - I do not work for any supplier or owe them anything. Was just trying to help.
