Hi All,

While I will carry out a search of the archives when I get a chance, I would like to hear from anyone using AOI.

I am currently looking for a 2nd user machine . A couple of the main factors I will be considering is ease of programming and low false fails.

Anyone care to share there experiences on what they are using at the moment ? I would ideally like to hear from other Engineers using the machines and not Reps.

we purchased a mirtec machine and have been very happy with it. Programming is easy, good support, it is very fast and you can make it as fault sensitve as you want with many inspection points to choose and flexability to alter inspection criteria. I would ask for a demo, from anyone you are considering. good luck

We have the yestech systems and are very pleased with them. I would also suggest that you bring units into your facility to see a demonstration. It seems that there are really only two choices when it comes to the quick to program and easy to use version of AOI and we looked at both as well. Our findings were that while both were very easy to program we selected the yestech platform as it was less involved and ultimately faster overall. The user interface was the key for us, the yestech had only one screen used to program while the mirtec had 3.

Hi aj,

We recently purchased an AOI machine. While doing the first pass research to see which machines to put through a head to head competition I discovered a major improvement in the programming for newer machines. If you buy used, get one that is relatively new. Check to see if you can upgrade software without having to pay an outrageous fee.

Ultimately we did head to head evaluation of Yestech, Mirtec and MVP. I ranked the performance of each in different categories and while I found the Yestech to be faster and easier to program it allowed several defects that were on 1 panel to pass. The Mirtec took about 1 hour more to program an 8 up panel that had 251 components on each board.

When all of the strengths and weaknesses of the 3 systems were evaluated we chose the Mirtec.

Keep in mind none of these systems are perfect and they all require good oversight and understanding of the strengths and weaknesses associated with AOI.

Whe have the Mirtec about 2 years now, the question is, that when you have 100 components to check he give's 20 to 30 failures that no failures are. are there people they have the same problem?

I have had an inline Mirtec for around two years now and we like it overall. The false calls we see are due to the lack of consistancy of the markings on the components. This usually causes some tweeking to the library when the first piece is produced. A reel change can also require additions to the library. And, the people that program our memories seems to enjoy coming up with different ways of placing our part number on the IC.
