USB A Connector help | 29 January, 2008

We have a customer who is using a standard USB Type A Connector on their assemblies. They don't want to add a housing to the assembly, but want to shield the metal USB connector housing from potential shorting with surrounding electronics within their application. I have called around to Kycon and Tyco and they have never seen any kind of snap on plastic cover or a plastic housed USB type A Connectector. So my question is what do you guys suggest that will be "pretty" to cover this usb connector with to prevent shorting? They are currently sticking double sided spongy tape on it and they don't like the way it looks. The only thing I can think of that is relatively simple is kapton tape. Thanks for your input, B

Hi, I really don't understand your customers (or yours for that matter) problem with the shield - shorting? Please explain in more detail. Placing a tape seems to me to be the worst thing you can do, in terms of life-time. In what type of application will it be used; telecom, home electronics, etc. or what? Maybe I didn't get a clear picture of this? /
