I am looking for idea�s for board support on Fuji CP642 thru CP742 and IP 3�s. We have tried using the Grid-lock system which worked on the IP�s but not on the CP�s. We have also tried using the Ready-set system and had the same results. We are getting missing and mis-onserted parts and I would like to rule out support.

Hi,

We use the standard pin supports when necessary.

Are your boards very thin i.e less than 1.6mm ? or maybe panelised ?

Other things to check are Z0 placement height aswell as damaged nozzles,sticky nozzle/nozzle head , poor feeders along with to large a tolerance in your PD or maybe placement speed to fast.

If you get the pin support right , my money is on poor nozzles ( not bent but chips on the top where the vacuum seal is made hence not holding the part correctly).

DANGER WILL ROBINSON ! DANGER !

If your operators are not real careful the OEM support pins can get under the table frame and bend it. I have seen this happen more times than I would like to discuss.

CP's must have the following: 1. Proper part height in shape data 2. Good board support(of course) 3. Good nozzles. No chips in the edges of them, and they have to be the proper length.They get stoved in sometimes. (There are multiple ways to check this.) 4. THE TABLE HAS TO BE LEVEL. 5. Nozzle deflection/ Z0 has to be correct. 6. Vacuum valves need to be functioning properly.

There is more but these are the basics.

Thanks for the insight. Most boards we are seeing problems with are 1.60mm thick (some less) and most of them are panelized. For your support pins what do you use to show operators where the pins should be setup? I have heard of using Plexiglas to map out where pins should go. The only problem that I have with that is that it is assembly specific and we have over 1500 different assembly numbers.

I have always heard the glory of plexi glass templates but have never seen them successfully implemented. ECR changes make this system nearly impossible when you are trying to manage thousands of assemblies.

We have removed the hand cranks from the machines and we now have our technicians set the supports up when a change over occurs.

If you have not physically looked at all of your nozzles ...pack a lunch and pull them all out. Look at them very closely. Even a very tiny chip, or a slight shortness can cause big headaches.

Hi,

We only have 2 lines , but I dont allow any of the Ops to set them up, I did once and winded up with 10 damaged nozzles and cracked caps on the boards ...

If the problem is as big as you say it is , you should really spend some time setting it up yourself and see if it improves it. If no improvement, you know its not your support.

Can you say that it is related to parts that are placed with 1mm nozzles only ? I really think you should take all the 1mm nozzles out or whatever nozzle you think, and replace all of them. I would be confident that this will sort your problem.
