Hi,

We have a custom large board and we need to do about 10-20 of them a month. Can anyone recommend a good quality manual stencil printer that we could use for it? Does not make any sense purchasing an automatic printer for such low volume.

Hi Grant, Just a few questions if you don't mind... How large is this large board? What type of packages are on this board? QFPs? BGAs? Is it a double sided assembly? I would almost recommend just purchasing a stencil and taping PCBs down to a bench top and printing them manually. Just use a couple of Clamps to secure the stencil to the bench to prevent it from shifting during the printing process. Call me crazy, but I've done this in a previous life. (Btw...don't really call me crazy. Us crazy folk don't much like that)

there are NO good manual printers. Better do it the way Crazzled Man offers. Emil

Hi,

The board is 412 x 685 mm. I don't really want to use a stencil taped down, as that's much worse than using one stretched over a frame, and protected from damage. It's got a lot of fine pitch, so I need to do it in a controlled way if possible.

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestions. The manual one looks too small, but the odd Japanese companies product looks really interesting. Not sure how you found these guys, as their web site is less than helpful, but looks like a really interesting product!

Thanks for the suggestions!

They make manual printers that fit 29X29 inch stencils. We use one every day. It's an old Svecia model.

Hi,

Ok, and thanks for the heads up on that, and I will contact them and see what model that is. I liked one of their manual printers, as it looks like the board slides back on linear bearings and then lifts up under the stencil, instead of the usual manual printer way of angling up from the back the stencil above the PCB, which is the big limitation of manual printers I feel. Might be a nice manual printer if they can do the size!

Hi,

Just checked with the manufacturer of that printer, and they cannot to the larger size. Shame, as it looked like a really good design.

Anyone know of any other brands?

These guys make some pretty big claims.........

Don't know what models you'd look for on the used market or what they'd go for, though.

We have a vintage 2006 SMT Techniques Semi Auto machine that would do it. Link to the machine and specs:

A good manual or magazine are hard to find these days. Most people just look at the pictures anyway! Just a pet peave of mine. Oh well it's the week end. got a case of beer in the truck and I'm thinkin of showering this weekend too. Anyone see my brother feel free to punch his mug. He never showed for work and now I gotta unload the wave as well as load it which really stinks. Him and his close friend Mike are out shopping for Hard Def TVs. Give me my rabbit ears any day!
