We're using a PFC (Product Flow Controller) box by Cogiscan between a conveyor and Agilent SJ-5000 (AOI) and the problem we're having is that when the downline smema cable is connected to the PFC box, the AOI conveyor belt keeps on turning even with no board available. If we unplug the cable it stops and if we don't use the PFC box and connect the AOI directly to the conveyor, it works fine. The weird thing about it also is even if the PFC box is off and as long as the cable is connected in to the PFC box, AOI conveyor still keep on turning. Any idea?

PFC box is upstream and Agilent is downstream. If Agilent conveyor runs with no board upstream pins 3 & 4 made be shorted. This should not be the case if there is no board upstream.

google "smema machine interface standards". This will show the cable connections and explain how the communication works. good luck

Do a search here for SMEMA standards, I had problems a while back and had to swap some wires on an OEM's machine to get it to interface correctly to our equipment.

Probably not the same problem as your having but I did write a long winded explination on how SMEMA is supposed to work.

Thank you for the reply AMK, sorry didn't get a chance to check this right away 'cause got side-tracked with other project. Anyway, what do you mean that pins 3&4 may be shorted? All I know that Agilent AOI uses Standard SMEMA configuration.

Dilbert, why don't you post it in the library and link from this post... would help others who could search here and find your information...up load the paper rather then link as links get broken.. thanks

One could check the SMEMA interface standard (http://smema.ipc.org/smema1.2.pdf )
