Does anyone know of a more economical alternative to Aegis Circuitcam for programming Mydata machines? Thanks,

Jack,

Well, there's always doing it locally on the machine.

There's also an old excel macro floating around that will help...it takes the x,y,theta information, and generates a pick and place program. However, we never had much luck with it here; and, in past lives, there was almost more pain with that than there was programming manually. Though, in fairness, I must say that I know some people that have been successful using it.

We've just recently invested in Circuitcam; and, in my mind, it's been worth every penny. We only had one machine for awhile, and being able to program while the machine was running a different job was a huge advantage. You can push on the sales people a bit, we managed to get it at a pretty large discount from the list price.

Prior to making the investment in Circuitcam, we used to outsource some of the programming to someone that used Circuitcam. That at least allowed us to turn a fast program for a quick turn job that we couldn't do by hand.

cheers ..rob

Hi Jack, we have in our comapany My15 and MY9. Both machines we programming almost daily only in excell. First manually, second with excell macro. Both alternative are almost camparable. It´s depending on amount of SMD parts and skills.

Thanks Rob. We are getting very high pricing from Aegis. Have you heard of Prontoplace by Unisoft? They had an advertisement on the smtnet website so we are doing a web demo on Thurs.

Jack,

I've heard of it, and reviewed their website; but that's about the limit of my exposure.

I'd be interested in impressions after the web demo. I'm assuming you have some knowledge/exposure to Circuitcam.

If you'd like to contact me off the site, we could discuss costs, etc. I don't think it's appropriate to post that info out here for everyone.

cheers ..rob

In my past I have used Circuit Cam with great results but now we are using the more economical Pronto place. It is not as elaborate as Circuit Cam but it is a really quick way to generate programs for the Mydata machine. Pronto Place has some unique features that make it in our minds a better choice than Circuit Cam but only because it fits our small business model. Support from Unisoft is excellent. Good luck

Have you used the EXCEL MACRO that MYDATA used to give out at no cost?

We have been using the MACRO for 9 years and it is very good. Contact me if you are interested in the EXCEL MACRO.

I can usualy edit the pick and place data with macro for a board with 500+ parts in about 40 minutes. When we were using CircuitCAM it took the operator 2 days to do the same thing.

We have CircuitCAM but find it hard to use. We are a small EMS and I cannot afford one person to only run CircuitCAM. I found the coments about UNIFAB interesting.

With Pronto Place I can generate a Mydata program and automatically merge an Excel bom in about 20 seconds. Takes longer if I need to produce assembly doxs...but still faster than Circuit Cam...have used the Mydata macro in the past also, but it doesnt merge the bom for you and that takes time and ofcourse you could make a mistake...

Good Luck....

Also check with the Valor guys they support Mydata from simple outputs to full optimisation/part generation etc. But if your budget limited then maybe not best fit...but best to chat to them and see if can squeeze abit !!!

I've speced in CircuitCAM at 3 different company's since 1996 and wouldn't use anything else. When we program our Mydata using CAD data within 5 minutes we have a program + a couple more minutes to verify the color visual aids by station. When we receive gerber data it will take longer within a hour or 2 if there are 250+ components and double-sided including visual aids. We output the program from Aegis to the Mydata over our intranet. Proof the program and start running.

Same here, I've been programming Mydata placement machines using CircuitCAM since 1999, at 2 companies. With an ASCII CAD file imported and simple BOM scrubbing, we can get programs directly output to our Mydatas in less than 5 minutes. Developing assembly instructions and visual aids takes longer of course, but nothing I know of compares in speed and accuracy, and will continue to use CircuitCAM and highly recommend it.

vPlan from Valor also is strong with Mydata, from general validated, scubbed, centroid corrected, rotation corrected outputs (same sort of times as mentioned with Aegis users to full optimistation part data generation on demand....(Aegis can not offer this....)

If you look at Aegis, should look at vPlan too and compare price performance!!!

2 days?? WOW! Here at our location, with MyData programming it takes on average for new projects a little over an hour with over 350 new parts. We use Aegis for both our offline programming as well as our MES and definitely have been happy with them during the last year with both support and troubleshooting issues with our location. We are now furthering our research with automating our smart feeders and lot control down to reference designators.

I have been programming Mydata for years. Aegis is the most flexible. You can program every field or you can do just the basics and finish it at the machine. I have used Valor but it wants to control everything, it dumps the databases every time you generate the program. Not good if you are making changes at the machine. If you’re on a budget you can use any text editor you’re comfortable with. Mydata gives you the format in the documentation.

I disagree on Valor, you may be refering to T5K , vPlan is different system and does not dump entire DB etc. It exports parts required by the Job only....you can read in on regular basis the Mydata DB to allow auto link of parts to program.

Also have seen AutoPart generation where it can make the parts on demand if they do not exist !!! - All part data is generated saving alot of time getting a new job started.

They offer Basic Export to full optimisation-mag placement, grouping and Auto parts Generation.

Ed: Our Mydata TP9-UFPs are down when we are using them to write programs. That Excel macro from Mydata would be a godsend. We would be very interested in getting and using the macro. Please contact me. Thanks. John

It would be excellent if somebody post the file, we're using an old-old-old version of unicam (5.x) and we're having issues importing newer CAD versions.

thanks in advance!!!

Edit the program in a text editor before you take it to the machine, and keep an eye on the program name (it should be right up front). I've had issues where the program name contained the path info (C:***) and this has thrown the MyData off.

cheers, ..rob

I have created an excel macro that will work with my100 and my9. this macro (excel spreadsheet will work with excel 97 through 2007) will generate the PCB .gen file to import into my9 or my100. the components can also be imported before generating the .gen file and also able to check for duplicate location and change orientation on components. then process only takes about 15mins to generate the file and created the new program on the mydata machines. in a few days, will also be creating a video on how to use it. you may also purchase it at http://www.mybidpage.com

We have used the Excel macro with great success for our two MyData TP9-UFP machines running TPSys version 1.5.18. It will run in Excel 2000, Excel 2002 and Excel 2003. It will not run under Excel 2007 and later or under StarOffice. I can send the macro, some instructions we wrote for our production people and some hints to prevent line and parsing errors when reading the file into the MyData. Contact me offline at jleise@techsi.com for the information. Note: You do have to massage your initial CAD data to get rid of the garbage before using the macro, but it beats the heck out writing the program from scratch! Glad to help and have a great day!!
