we are currently running 0201 components using the c-14 tool on the my9 pick and place and are having a lot of missing components with in the PCB's. is anyone or has anyone had this problem? if so, were you able to finf a fix for it?

Found a company that builds modified tool tips for my9 with stainless steel tip. we are going to try one and seen if it helps on placing the 0201 components. the rubber tip just gets damaged too easy and components stick to it do the solder flux.

FYI we also found a set of centering jaws that were up for sale at http://www.mybidpage.com these were also modified and made of stainless steel. the guy a bought the jaws from also said, he would be posting more up for sale after getting them back from machine shop.these jaws also last longer and have been working great for us. hope this helps others using my9 machines.

Louie,

We'd be interested in your experience with the stainless centering jaws. We just ran a job with heavy 0402 placements, and had a rough time with it. After much work on the package, magazine centering, etc, I've concluded the issue is the centering jaws. And our jaws are only about 3-4 months old. If I can avoid replacing the jaws every 3 months, I'd definitely be interested!

I don't have electrical test, but, I'm interested if the jaws your buying would work with electrical test, if the machine were equipped.

Thanks ..rob

the jaws are not for electrical testing do to being two solid stainless steel pieces. i dont really have any issues with 0402's, i got them placing good. its the 0201's that are a pain. attached is a picture of the centering jaws for you to see.

I doubt that you will gain any advantage from stainless jaws. I think the stock jaws have beryllium inserts in them. I am pretty sure beryllium is harder than SS.

Maybe stainless jaws with carbide inserts in them would work better ? Or what about ceramic inserts ?

you can use whatever you prefer, but they work just fine for us. have not had any problems with 0402 parts anymore, and get more use out of them than the stock jaws. we dont have to replace them as often, and seem to center just fine, and mager difference on the price tag.

so, i found a new tool tip nozzle for the my9 to place the 0201 components and works perfect. the tool tip is also made out of stainless steel. the nozzle was completely modified and works alot better than the OEM nozzle.
