DEK 265GSX HOOD OPEN ERROR | 20 September, 2010

Hi,

I was wondering if anybody knows of a way to close the hood on a 265gsx after it has been opened and the machine has been shut down? What I’m trying to say is that the machine was shut down with the hood raised and the prop rod on. When I boot the machine, it says system suspended with the covers open, but I cant lower the hood or get into any menus. Please help me get this hood closed. Thanks!

Can you remove the interlock mechanism that makes the switch from the hood insert into the switch and trick the machine then close the hood palm down and put everything back?

Some machines use magnets, some use the slotted switch with a metal key that slips in.

Hi,

Yes I tried to do that. When I stick a key inside the slot, I still get a system suspended error. Although I can press the system switch and I can hear the locks engage, but nothing happens. the machine still thinks the covers are opened and there is no menu options to get the hood down. I think I might have to lower the head manually, but how would I go about doing that? Thanks for the quick reply

Did you make sure you don't have any E-stops on?

Hi,

Yes I dont have any estops engaged. Like I said, I can press the system switch and I can hear the locks engage, but it will not give me an option to lower the hood. I have tried turning the maintenance key, but nothing shows up on the monitor. Does anyone know how to lower the hood manually? Thanks again for all your help.

Check to make sure that the front and back of the DEK265GSX covers are closed. I have seen issues where the back cover trips its interlock and people go other places to look for the problem.....hope this helps

Yes I have checked both covers and they are both closed. The latch keys are sitting in their respective slots. I need to know how I can lower the hood manually or if there is a way to get into the diagnostics menu before the machine boots. Thanks.

"System Suspended While Cover is Opened" indicates front or rear cover opened; not the head being raised. Therefore there is an issue with one of the cover interlocks not being made properly. Note there are 2 switches on each (NO and NC) one goes into e-stop loop, the other to I/O. The error cited is an indication of the I/O signal on one of the cover interlocks being "not made".

Head not fully down upon power up will get a prompt to lower (if seen at "up" sensor) or raise (if not seen at either sensor.

hope this helps.

No, there is not a way to initialise into the diagnostics menu with the head raised / covers open.

Literally lowering the head manually (prop head, disconnect actuator, etc) is naturally possible, but not receommended... and based upon your symptom (erroneous cover opened error) you will still have the same problem.

DEKHEAD,

Thanks for the repies. I have checked and re checked both cover switches, and both are making contact. I have even stuck bypass keys into both slots and still i get nothing. When you say it is an IO error, how would I go about checking this? The ESTOP relay lights react when i pull the keys in and out of the slots. I'm stuck as to what to do now. Thanks, for all the replies.

DEK 265GSX HOOD OPEN ERROR | 20 September, 2010

dman,

This happened to me once on a GSX, but the head was not all the way up. I ended up shutting the machine down, inserting a bypass key so it thought the head was lowered then turning it back on. Then I told it I wanted to raise the head, hit the buttons and yanked out the key with my third hand so it thought (correctly) that the head was only partially raised. Then I was good to go. If your head is ALL the way up so that the hall effect sensor in the back is flagged, it may be "smart" enough to realize that the hall effect can't be flagged and the head down key in at the same time. Also, be careful if you disable that hall effect sensor. The head can drive itself into a locked open position. Then you unbind it and lower it manually.

2 minutes before I posted!

So, what did you end up doing to get it back up and running?

Thanks

I swapped card 3 and 5 in the Y2 enclosure. That seemed to fix it for now.
