Puzzling CSM84VZ errors, #118 and #120 | 31 October, 2011

One of my CSM84VZs sometimes insists on "error 120, No Point" and also, today when configuring for a new pcb, "error 118, divide by zero". I see nothing in the board data to suggest divide by zero problems. The "no point" error showed up when I added a few mounts to a program that was working fine. Neither error message is listed in the manual, both 118 and 120 are skipped over in the error description list. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Tom

Hi , I would think that when you added the new parts, you missed to give them some of the parameterrs and that's why you start to get error messages. Check part parameters(I don't know if you are talking about pick and place machine or some other machine). I have seen P&P machines showing similar kind of errors when something is missed in part parameters. I hope this will help.

Thanks for the reply, all the parameters are being entered, but there is something subtle causing the error messages, likely some silly thing I'm overlooking. Hopefully someone is familiar with these error messages, because the manual hasn't been much help 8-)

Thanks, Tom

Tom, Does this only happen on one job or all jobs ? If this happens again..you should clear the RAM memory, but changing the 10 year 3v lithium battery on the motherboard should also be considered at the same time. RAM CLEAR PROCEDURE: Power off, remove data connector off floppy at rear, power on, goto a newly exposed menu under SYSTEM called DATA INITIALISE, kill the memory, power off, fit the floppy data cable again. If the machine comes up in Japanase.. change it to English in the SYSTEM/MACHINE_CONFIG. menu. Your setting for the file system must be restored if you want the GLOAD/GSAVE option to work, else the default will be LOAD/SAVE. Regards Jeff

Hi Jeff, This machine (my unit #2) has a couple programs that execute just fine, but when I added additional mounts to one of them I got the "120"error. When I added another new program, the "118" error showed up, and of course, everything in all the programs "looks" just fine. FWIW, the firmware version is V3.78/I1.02 and 1.14c for the vision. My other machine (#1) is version V3.93/I102 with vision 1.20c, and this unit behaves perfectly and has never given error messages unless I do something obviously wrong. Does it make any sense to upgrade the "naughty" machine with the "nice" machine's firmware, or would this be opening a can of worms?

Thanks! Tom

Tom, V3.78 is truely a bad version and does not include GLOAD. Files taken from the machine with V3.93 can stumble, but can be read... so I would recommend burning V3.93 EEPROMs. Only do this if both machines have Vision and DC Servo Motors present. If you need the HEX files... I have them. Regards JEFF

Hi Jeff, both units have DC servos, and both appear to have the same vision system, although #2 has an additional upward-looking camera with a high magnification lens for die mounting. If I could make use of your hex files, that would be great since I could avoid any risk of screwing up the "good" system 8-) Is just switching the eeproms "safe" in that all the existing program and setup data will be compatible with the newer firmware, or should I expect to have to recalibrate something?

Thanks! Tom

Tom, I cannot find the software to operate my Sunshine EPROM burner right now. It is safe for you to read out the files on each of the ROMs using your burner. It is just a plug in, plug out operation to get the machine going again. The machine will start in Japanese prompting you to hit the ENTER key to accept the new ROMs. After bootup you may or may not need to change the JAPANESE/ENGLISH toggle, but you can find where in the SYSTEM menu that is from your other machine. Configure the GLOAD setting. Please note that Yamaha officially from this month is halting supply of any spare parts for these machine anyone. You can buy some consumables off the web but the X & Y axis motors will be an issue for you as they fail at 20,000 hours and cannot be repaired easily.

Hi Jeff, no problem, I'll just pop them out and make copies. I'm betting the upgrade will take care of these silly problems. The machine with the "newer" firmware just goes and goes without any issues other than replacing that R-axis servo a while back. That machine has about 25,000 hours showing on the meter! These units were so economical to put into operation, if they run a couple more years I should easily be able to buy something newer! Thanks again, I'll advise of the outcome 8-)

Hi Jeff, I pulled the proms from both machines, copied to disk, re-burned the the old versions with the newer and reinstalled. The ram became scrambled in the upgraded unit on startup, but I did a full restore through the serial port and unit #2 got right down to business. Only one silly problem persists. I use the conveyor in the "return" mode, and more often than not, when the machine finishes placing the board, instead of returning the board to the left side and then stopping, the conveyor pulls it right in again as if it was a new bare board. Probably just a silly adjustment, but I'm not sure of what 8-)

Thanks again for the help, let me know if I can help you with anything from "over here"!

Tom
