We are looking to puchase a table top conformal coating system. Can anyone tell me what to look for and are there systems that wont brake the bank.

Could be as simple as a pail full of UR coating and some wire hangars!

Conformal coating is brushed on, sprayed on, and parts are dipped too, not to mention the wonderful vacuum process that is paralene.

Gotta have a little more info as to your actual requirement, friend!

If you are going to coat very low volumes then just spray it by hand. The automated machines just won't be worth it unless you are going to do a very large run. They are complicated, require constant attention, still require masking the board and are very expensive. To spray it by hand is a very small investment in equipment and not very difficult. A better option is to out-source the process to a coating house. Easier then dealing with hazmat, equipment purchases, etc.

Our production runs normally are 20 piece builds. We don't what to brush because of the brush marks left behind. Reason we wanted a machine is more control then dipping with a tub and modified paper clips. The other problem we have is the company as a whole is a mechanical company not a true electronic manufacturer. Hence questions about conformal coating systems. We need a method for doing 20 boards without wasting huge amounts of time. Any recommend method would be welcome.

If I am not mistaken you can buy Spray cans of Conformal Coating. For the small batch in the environment you are describing, that might be the ticket. A bit pricey material wise, but clean up is a cinch. A little masking tape, and spray away!

For that low a volume it would be simplest and most economical to just out source the work. If you want, just send me an e-mail and I can give you specific options on what would be best for you., in-house or out-house.
