First, why is there appears to be no marking on simple capacitors when there is a code for, yet there is markings on resistors?

Attached is a interesting table, it came about after I spent hours and hours and hours looking on Internet from a 16 Volt capacitor code that went letter-letter-number-number code the second character turned out to be a number not a letter, the code "E684" all the web sites gives the left side of the table instead of the right side, which in this case is correct because E=16 Volt.

Cost to mark them. Some of the cap manufactures do not have the equipment to do it. They have older lines and to retrofit them is cost prohibitive. A lot of OEMs do not want the values of everything on the boards so they are harder to reverse engineer. If they use epoxy ink and its not level it can cause vacuum issues. Also the big guys like Samsung, Apple etc drive the cap/electronic component market it if they wanted it the cap manufactures would do it if the don't care they wont do it.

Good table, but I think that first of all - this is data-sheet from manufacturer of your capacitors. This part of web-site (about capacitors) - just a basic information, which we need for a common understanding.

Hi ENIAC

That table is part of a mush bigger article I was putting together, and will post somewhere at this website soon, as a one stop complete information.

The hold up was Electrolytics and Tantalums code is different but there is no way to tell the difference, for example they both have the Letter-number-number-number code (and the letters are different, as you can see on the table above)

... and the letter part you look on the table, the number-number-number code is the IEC code example “684”=68*10^4 pF ôr 680nF , 680,000pF
