Hi, i am new to PCB Assembly.

I am told that to assemble PCB in attachment, selective assembly is required. Can someone, in this forum, let me know what is "Selective Assembly" line?

Any information and equipment vendor suggestion in this regard is appreciated.

thanks Pankaj

Is there anything on the other side of the board? If not the process will be very standard. 1. SMT - place the small parts on your board. It is called surface mount technology. Basically one machine applies solder paste on the board, another machine places the parts and third machine will heat the board and create the solder joints. 2. Through hole assembly for the two big parts you have. Usually the board goes through wave soldering machine. It is a machine with big pot of melted solder that touches the board and solders the big parts on the other side of the board.

There is no need for selective soldering machine if that is what they meant by "selective process...or line". If there is something that is not clear let us know.

Regards, Emil

thanks. 1. yes, i understand this requires SMT assembly.

2. For bigger components (USB and phone jack), how can these be placed automatically on PCB? The manual process will be slow.

Usually Through Hole parts are placed by inserters. Many companies(CEM - Contract electronic manufacturers) will have some of these and will provide this service for you.

Hello,

Use "THR Through-Hole-Reflow" also called PiP Pin-in-Paste

If the bigger components (USB and Phone Jack) also Reflow able and your Placer can handle this Parts (look at Gipper Nozzle esp. for USB).
