Test vehicle for PWA cleaning

We are interested in doing some further studies on our cleaning process, particularly with respect to how well we can clean underneath low profile components. As an SMT subcontractor, we'd ideally like to qualify our chemistry/cleaning process to certain clearance levels. Given that SIR testing is typically done on a bare PWB, does anyone know of a test board where we can evaluate cleanliness levels with parts at different heights above the PCB? Thanks.

Information a SIR test vehicle can be found in IPC-9201, SIR Handbook [http://www.ipc.org].

Common test boards are: * IPC-B-24 (copper and HASL, FR-4 and polyimide) * IPC-B-36 (bare copper and HASL, FR-4 and polyimide) * IPC Phoenix board (bare copper, FR-4) * IPC-B-25A (FR-4, bare copper only). [NOTE: IPC-B-25A board replaced the venerable B-25.]

Diversified Systems (DSI) 3939 West 56th St Indianapolis, IN 46254 317-299-9547 Fax 317-298-2056 http://www.divsys.com fabricates test boards for at least one commercial test laboratory.

Among top flight commercial test laboratories are: * Robisan Laboratories: robisan1@aol.com * Contamination Studies Laboratory: residuguru@aol.com

Some commercial test laboratories sell test boards so their customers can avoid lot charges from board fabricators.

Consider that a SIR test coupon could be added on a break-away tab to most boards. If you know that your board fabricator runs a clean shop, this might be something to ponder.
