We have a product which is supplied on 8mm tape.

One customer recently commented that their SMT equipment couldn't handle the part as the tape was measuring 8.5 mm. Our actual measurements of this tape were 8.33 and 8.36 mm.

I believe the max dimension should be 8.3 mm but would 0.03 to 0.036 mm be enough to make the part unusable?

I think that would depend somewhat on what type (manufacturer) of feeders they have. We run Mydata (Micronic) machines. With the style of feeder they use, a tape that exceeds the normal width could be a problem as there is a maximum width the feeders will accept. However, I have never seen a tape not work due to being extra wide.

Maybe that's the problem as our customer is using a Mydata machine. Thanks for your input.
