Pick and Place Machines (Blue Book) | 1 November, 2016

Just curious on if anyone knows of a Kelly Blue Book for Smt Equipment out there. We have some older machines and looking to sell or scrap. I would like to know a fair market value if these machines are still being used or if they are now retired. Thanks for the feedback.

Try searching on ebay. You can also go to 'advanced' search and show completed listings to see what prices auctions sold for (or didn't.) Machine dealers typically sell machines in refurbished condition, ready to work with a warranty so they are going to be worth much more than what a decomissioned and stored machine is worth 'as-is.'

I don't know how accurate an idea you will get on eBay. Here in the UK the only stuff that ends up on eBay is total crap, manufacturers and brokers between them seem to get hold of most of the machines when they come to the end of their lease or usefulness. However some of brokers do put guide prices on their websites which should give some idea. http://www.pmtech.co.uk/equipment/used-equipment/pick-place/juki-2070l.html for example must be around 30% of its original value in 5 years. Manufacturers can rarely make up their minds but some of them also buy back equipment for more than you would get for it on the open market. I guess too much cheap good stuff onm the 2nd user market de-values their product line.

I ran an internal equipment refurbishment business for a major SMT equipment OEM in the mid 00's. I believe you can expect 5% to 15% of the original price dependent on the age and life status of the model from a secondary market dealer. If you sell direct to an end user you may be able to double the return. Selling to an end user carries more risk however. What ever you choose to do, do not work on a verbal agreement, get everything in writing and detailed. Good luck.

Yes!!! agreed.

Details like the definition of "refurbished" Written agreements tend to curb amnesia on the dealers part.

One thing I like to say in the agreement is full payment upon my acceptance. If they are reputable they will agree to this.
