Adding leads to leadless parts | 17 December, 1999

We have a new program that is going to require us to add many leads to presently leadless parts. It isn't preferred by we are up against the wall. We will be doing mostly passive caps, resistors and diodes and some LCC's as well. Is there any one source for add on leads that people have had experience with and or been happy with?

Clarissa: We've all done thing on a limited basis, especially on prototype boards, but this doesn't sound like a limited basis, or prototype boards. (And may be I reading too much into this, we all know the frailities of conversing like this.) This sounds like a disaster. Please e-mail me your company name so that I do not mistakenly purchase your product.

I assume by the question that one group of folks at your company designed a PTH technology board, another group of folks bought part for a SMT board, and some maroon doesn't want to pay the price of their failure to manage the process properly. Consider:

1 Relaying-out the board to match the components you plan to place on it. 2 Adding surface mount pads to the current board to match the components you plan to place on it. Search the archive for "additive" and "asi" for additonal background.

Good luck
