Dear SMT Experts,

Just want to seek for expert advice regarding Ceramic PCB. Our Customer want to run ceramic PCB and want to understand the challenges that we might encounter.

Anyone have their experienced running or dealing with Ceramic PCB, what are the challenges for Paste Printing, Pick & Place, Reflow Soldering, Wave Soldering, Depanelling, In Circuit Test and PCB?

Highly appreciated any inputs and advice on this matter. Thank you in advance.

Thank you for your response and information. I don't have any idea on what is Hybrid Circuits but if I will use ceramic PCB does my current SMT line need to change which running FR4 PCB material?

My apologized for my queries.

Thank you.

I have only seen ceramic PCBs a couple of times. Make sure you run a temperature profile on a PCB. But you should do that anyway. Other than that I don't remember any other issues. I can't remember how they were panelized You might want to check into that. They might even have fewer problems with moisture and with warping than ordinary PCBs.

Reflow temperature recipe: Keep ramp rates below 1.5 deg. c/second. Ceramic is such a good heat sink you will need a slow profile by today's standards.

Handling: Do not drop ceramic boards

Handling: Wear gloves ceramic can be very sharp

General: Technically SMT on ceramic is the same as on organic boards, but in real life everything is more difficult
