Hello,

what is the difference between the TP9-2 and the TP11-UFP?

The TP11-UFP is larger, can it do something more than the TP9-2 except placing more components?

Generally, the machines can place the same types/sizes of components.

The advantage with the 11 is that you can have more magazines loaded with more components, and build larger assemblies more efficiently.

The -9, though, will get you through nearly everything you need. And, the way MyData wrote it's placement software, if you need more magazines than can be loaded on the machine at any one time, you can hot-swap in the middle of a build (well, stop the build when you swap magazines). So, run out all the parts that are on the machine, and then swap in the next magazine(s) with the balance of the parts. Easy peasy.

Course, you need to have enough magazines; but, if you're not running high volume product, it's pretty easy to swap magazines in and out during the run.

Thanks for the info. And what about accuracy of the placement. Are both machines able to handle the same parts or are there any differences like for small components or BGA?

I can't imagine anything more tedious than continuously swapping feeders during a build (unless your panels are 10mins++) and the very suggestion this was a good idea when were were looking at MY's was comical to me.

You should expect all TP series machines to have similar accuracy, however Mydata machines do have a number of options, not all of which might be described in the part number. I think some TPs even used mechanical centering, yuck. In their most basic single head form they are also dog slow as that single nozzle has to travel up and own the length of a quite a long machine.

Not swapping out feeders....swapping out magazines. It only works well if you have enough extra mags to load all the feeders on. And is a viable solution if your position limited on your machine.

Before the advent of Aegis feeders for My machines, each magazine would be loaded with up to 16 8mm parts. I ran a couple of jobs where I needed four 8mm magazines, a tube magazine, a 12mm magazine, and a 12/16mm magazine. The TP9 only had six available magazine slots...so, the solution was to swap out one of the 8mm mags in the middle of the run. TPSys is pretty good at re-optimizing itself when a magazine isn't available, and, of course, you can set part priority groups. Set the larger parts as priority 2 parts, and run the program. When one of the 8mm mags runs out of parts, press the button, swap the mag, and when the new mag comes up, the machine will automatically start placing those parts. I accomplished the same thing with Aegis feeders, and fewer magazines, but, swapping out feeders between runs took a bit more time. But, since you can swap out a mag on a My machine without stopping the run, you learn how to minimize down time.

As far as I know, MyData is the only machine that could easily run like this. It's not the optimum solution, but, when buying a second machine isn't an option, it is a solution.

The UFP was a designation for "ultra-fine-pitch"; but, for the most part, you should be able to get the same placements out of both machines.

Anything 0402 or above can be mechanically centered. The UFP machine will lean on optical centering for .5mm pitch BGA's and smaller, but, with some effort, you can (I have) successfully and repeatably place .4mm pitch parts with mechanical centering.

The UFP machine will likely have newer cameras, and updated vision software.
