The participation column under the listing by message date and by author is the forums (ie. SMT, Component, etc) that the message is participating in. When replying to a message, the message will have the same "forum participation" as the above message by default.

When starting a leading message, no forum is checked by default, so the poster must choose at that time what forum(s) that the message is involved in.

If any of the messages in the thread participate in any forum you are viewing, then you should see that thread.

I think I see the confusion from the name "participation" which is referring to the message and not your selections. We'll make that more clear somehow.

I am not sure what you mean about the cookie. The cookie has 2 functions, to determine who is returning (ie, cfid and token) and whether you accept cookies (sounds funny but it works).

Do you mean the visited link of the title of message?
