Hey everyone,

We use a MyData MY12 machine and we are experiencing a problem with the Midas head. I recently replaced a torn vacuum tube that goes on the zfib card. The machine worked perfectly for a day and a half but now MY12 has completely stopped on me. The error that's showing up is: F-MOT-MSETDYN Theta/12: No axis movement detected by transducer.

I have initialized all motors and the C-motor, X-motor, Y-motor, Z motor, Hydra theta-motor and Hydra Z-motor all initialize fine. The problem occurs when I initialize the Theta motor. Nothing on the Midas head moves. However, when I initialize the Z motor, the whole Midas head moves up and down. Can somebody help me diagnose this issue.

Start by checking cables. Odd that the C-motor would initialize, but, then, theta fails when you move the Z-motor. Sounds like something's got a loose connection somewhere. Possibly in the connector going into the C-motor.

If that's a no-go, try moving MOT cards around, and seeing if the failure moves around with them. If so, there's a bad MOT card, or a going bad MOT card.

If that fails, then my best guess would be an encoder problem on the c-motor.

I am assuming you are initializing each motor individually through the service program. The z motor theta is hard to see so I put a mark on it with a colored marker so you can watch if the midas tool nozzle is actually turning or not. You should be able to manually spin the tool nozzle back and forth. If not your z force sensor cable might be binding it. The theta motor is inside the midas head there are four brushes for it located behind 4 plugs on the bottom of the upper half of the midas. You can check those to see if they are still good. You have the blue cable running down to the midas head that can be bad. The 2 long blue ribbon cables on top can be bad. The z mot board can be bad. If it winds up the theta motor itself is bad unfortunately you will have to replace the midas head.

Check that the new vacuum tubing isn't restricting the theta rotation. It can "wrap" around the Midas head, if not secured properly.

Hmm...that's a good point, Bilal. To tell you the truth, I'm not sure where the MOT cards are in the MY series (or if they're still using MOT cards the way the TP series did).

In the TP's, they were in the computer bay on the left hand side of the machine. I never had to troubleshoot these types of problems on the MY that I had, so, I'm not certain where they stuck them. If I had to guess, it'd be in the same area as the main processor (again, if they still use MOT cards like the TPs did).

On the my12 the panel on the front of the machine comes off two screws each corner to loosen the panel. There is a pull out tray that gives you easier access to the computer, ps3, etc. It will be the box in the center on top it should label where each mot board is located. The mot mi board is a double board. The mot x board has a second board attached to it with a ribbon cable also attached to it. If you want to swap mot boards the mot y mot z and mot c are easily interchanged each board has 4 screws that need to be loosened. 2 on top and 2 on bottom of each board panel.

Hi all, We were able to fix the issue. We replaced the MOT cards with the MOT cards in the good machine. That, however, did not resolve the issue. The issue was very basic; one of the fuses (fi fuse) located to the left of the MOT cards became open. When we replaced the fuse, the problem went away.

To diagnose such issues, I think the following is a good procedure: 1. Check if a fuse associated to a motor is blown. 2. If the fuse is fine, try replacing the MOT card. 3. If the MOT card is fine, the problem may be with the part itself; in this case the Midas head.
