Never mind that, your MRP/stock control system should be able to tell you the reels you buy most often. If there's a huge amount of splicing is it worth looking at bulk components and one of those bowl/vibratory feeders? (if only because they are super cool) ..... Wait what happened the the SiPlace BULKFeder? the video is gone, sad times.

Same as above, probably going to be 100nf 0603 or 0402 Caps, or 0805 if old technology. If you have a decent pick & place you can gang pick these - line up 8 reels in a row of the same value for example & cut pick times, and reel changes

But that only applies fully if you have the nozzles inline head to match, fast turret heads prefer to hammer a single lane, at least that would be my understanding given I don't have one :(. More active reels = more to track, that may matter to some.

Is 0805 really old technology? We're mostly 0805 just because we don't need the space. A much larger sometimes customer down the road, also almost entirely 0805. Our unrelated clients tend to focus on 0805, my guess is its the point smaller developers feel happy knocking up their own mods and prototypes. 0603 seems to be the great unloved and gets skipped for 0402 except for that odd capacitor value you can't quite squeeze down.

Yea, in past lives I'd line up as many reels of the high usage parts as possible for gang picking, but now that I'm on ASM it just wants a single reel of each part and it chews through that.

I suppose you could line up one reel per gantry if you have one of those 4 gantry chipshooters that knocks out 200Kcph...

0805 has been considered old technology by the component manufacturers for 15+ years. Industrially it's the 0402 100n as the most used part, throw in tablets and mobile phones and it's probably the 0201 100nf or 10nf.

@ dontfeedphils.....ASM will accept multiple reels of same P/N. We do it every day.

I never said ASM wouldn't take more than one reel of the same PN per gantry, just that during optimization it generally doesn't call for more than one reel of the same PN per gantry.
