Hi Guys

We looking to purchase a second hand system consisting of a Juki KE-2050L and a SMT XXS reflow oven.

This will be our first system and used only for our own boards.

We hoping to get some opinions and insight from others that have experience with these machines.

The Juki has approximately 20 000 hrs on it.

Would we be making a serious mistake for any reason ? Any deal breakers to consider or inspect prior to the purchase?

Any assistance or comments will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance Brad

Greetings. Make sure the calibration/homing chip is still with the machine and not lost, although you can buy a replacement from Juki for a not-so-nominal fee. Also, have the seller power it up and bring up the Laser image display/edge check. If there is an unusual amount of distortion on the cleanliness image, do a quick cleaning according to the manual instructions and check it again, if it remains distorted, the laser may be bad, and those are very expensive to replace. Its a fantastic machine otherwise, one of the last Bang-for-buck machines Juki made. A quick tip: clone the hard drive after you receive it and you can save yourself a service call (in most cases) If you ever get the blue screen of death.

2050's are old and no longer supported. If a major component fails you could be in trouble.

Control boards etc....

I bought KE2050R in 2020 and started nicely all in good order and after 2 days the HDD died on me. I wish I have made a mirror. I manage to make a HDD from scratch and I recalibrated the machine from because I had calibration data stored in flash (I bought all the calibration jigs as well) - The KE2050 is brilliant had no other trouble since.

So probably the fist two things - save the calibration data and make an image of the HDD.

I would suggest getting KE-2060 or KE-2080 instead. It has better camera and easier programming if you are working with fine-pitch components such as QFPs & Micro BGAs.
