Hi,

We have a PCB with layers defined for a thickness of 1.6mm from a customer . Is it possible to make it 2mm without affecting any Cu traces or layers , just by altering the FR4 material only.

This should be possible, but definitely get the OK from your customer first! Layer thickness may effect things like impedance, EMC, or other electrical properties of the assembly.

out of curiosity, why do you want thicker boards?

Thanks DWL, we have a board with double sided SMT components now. and there is an intrusive component on the bottom side which is build first. the connector pin is extending out by 0.3mm and this is causing printing issues when building top side. we cant prep this part neither trim the leads as of now.

"If the Mountain won't go to Mohammed, then Mohammed must come to the Mountain". Try to get shorter part from manufacturer or get trimming option back to the table.

Hi I addition to the mentioned electrical effects, there are also reliabilty issues with increasing the board thickness, such as increased aspect ratio for the vias or registration difficulty

Can you switch which side is processed first? It might not be ideal but it may work.

Or, it may not fit where it's supposed to fit. That would not make for a happy customer!
