GSM Spindle Height / Zaxis calibration? | 20 September, 2021

One of our GSM machines started having an issue with "spitting" parts onto the board / blowing them around. I determined the problem be that spindle #2 on our flex head is not touching the parts all the way down to the board. It is stopping just above the board and then the air kiss blows the part away.

I adjusted the height of all the spindles using the jig plate and mpf nozzles. I adjusted air kiss and cleaned the filters in the air valves. There does not appear to be any resistance in the linear slide action.

Any thoughts on why it would not be putting the parts all the way down?

SOLVED

Upon manually activating the zaxis to drive the spindles down, it was noted that the touch down sensor for spindle #2 was activating at a certain point in the travel without touching anything.

I went to look at the adjustment of the sensor and discovered that moving the lead to the sensor triggered it. The lead had fatigued and the wire failed causing the sensor to activate while the spindle was traveling. This caused the spindle to stop early and release the parts into the air. Replacing the sensor (and spindle 4's also showing the same symptoms) with a spare has resolved the issue.
