Flux Stone storage | 21 April, 2022

Hello: I am wondering what you all do with your flux stone at the end of the day? Do you remove the unit and store it in DI water or your thinner for the flux? Do you leave the stone in and just add your thinner to get to the correct specific gravity? I have done some research and the info is very sparse. All of our units are pretty old and the manufactures recommended way seems out of date. I myself think you should store it in thinner. Let me know what you do. Thank You.

We used to empty the tank on Friday and let the stone basically dry out over the weekend. That was before I got involved with it. We were constantly replacing stones.

Now, we empty the flux Monday morning and replenish with new. That way the stone is never allowed to get dry. When we were talking about being able to store it wet, I was going to get a piece of PVC pipe with end caps to put the stone in and fill with fluid. That seemed like the easiest way to store without wasting too much.

I agree with ProcEng1 that using a capped PVC pipe filled with flux is a good way to keep flux stones from drying out while in storage

Agree, PVC tube with a screw on cap at one end. we store in IPA though, cleans it and keeps it from drying out.
