check feeder cpt tracking on SMT lines | 16 July, 1999

Hello, i'm looking for informations about companies which are using system to verify the loadind of a SMT machine by using barcode (on the slot on the machine & on the reel). I'm in charge of the installation of this kind of system. I expect to have details about the way to check that the good part number is loaded in th good slot on the machine. I would like to contact people who have ever worked on this subject. One of the difficulties in the system is the way to chek the trays. The system would be used in a way of components tracking too. In fact, the operation of scaning the P/N and the slot is an operation of tracking : linking a time, a machine, a component on a board. I would like to know if the people who are using this kind of system on SMT line are satisfacted. Thank you for answers. Ronan.

Again I have only heard of this system I have not seen it first hand.

Good luck Mike

There's another system called CIMCIS that has a module for this as well, but one of the problems, as you've highlighted if tray's so you normally have to scan the packing material and rely on getting that right. But one of the other concern's or rather posible error's is when you get wrongly labeld reel's from stores or a vendor..any thoughts ?

If you program your equipment offline, which most do, will this software hinder your programing department? There is a wide rage of software for this particular subject that do a wide variety of tasks. You can get software that will stop the machine until an authorized party can unlock it when a wrong part is scanned. If you want to be safe about what software to buy you need to consult your equipment suppliers and see what they recomend.

P.S. You also need to check where the different scanning packages recieve there information.(i.e. If they access a program to get part number data, you will have to create a storage area for your programs; you don't want to be making alterations to a program while a line is running the product)

This is just my opinion, I could be wrong!
