OEE / Utilization | 10 June, 1999

History: I have 6 Fuji lines running 21.5 hrs per day, 7 days per week. I have low volume ( kit size 1500 ) and high mix of components. My average OEE / Utilization is 43% per month. Lines: >CP4-3 AND IP3 >CP4-3 AND IP2 >CP4-3 AND IP3 >CP4-3 AND IP2 >CP3 AND IP2 >CP3 AND IP2 Question: Looking for anyone who has this type of mix, equipment and what is your OEE and how do you come up with the numbers.

I use Unicam Line monitor system to collect data for my OEE / Utilization. The line monitor system feeds right from the MCS30 host.

Unfortunately, you have not provided enough information to determine productivity.

Chew on this...Factors affecting placement machine productivity.

* You will NEVER achieve factory rated PPH specs on live boards. Unless you build demo boards for a living you must characterize your equipment placement rate capability. * Panelize., Panelize, Panelize. The greater number of placement possibilities per board transfer, the higher your PPH. Eliminate secondary times as much as possible. Its pure overhead. If your not placing parts, your NOT making money. * Machine Productivity is a function of (utilized time divided by available time) X 100 * factor out of available time regular PM's and or lunches / breakes (if the machines normally do not run during these periods). Otherwise this time will count against your productivity. * Utilize off line setups on IP carts (buy extras. Its worth the money)! Have CP feeders already set up and ready to load. Utilize the changeover modes on the device tables. This way you can set up 1 product while another is running. * Use Turnover mode when ever possible. The gains are small on 1 board, but add up over 1500. * Avoid auto block skip marks if possible. Overhead!. Especially if you never receive "X'ed" out boards (panels only). * Determine the reasons for machine stopage. Its so easy to blame the machine for low productivity but not if the operator runs into an unknown part shortge situation. Use point of use inventory if this is a factor. * Determine operator response time for problems. Applicable to line technicians as well. * Program alternate pickups for heavy users. Keep the turrets turning! *avoid applying reduced transport parts to the CP machines (less than 100% turret speed) . But Not at the expense of unballancing the two machine process.

Typically, once you hit 60 to 80 % machine up time its time to add equipment. Otherwise one problem with any machine or process can cause you to miss your shipment schedule.
