Communication??? | 29 April, 1999

We will be moving our entire plant in a couple of months . We are in the process of installing communication cable etc, to allow for a easy drop machine in line type move. ( is this possible) My question is what type of communication cable would be the best? What is more reliable at long distances? Is there a a certain length that Rs232 cable becomes unreliable?

any suggestions KevinSimpson@ga.slr.com SMT Engineer Technician

As far as length of cable goes that will depend on the driver receiver pair you are using and cable type. Typical is 100 feet. However, I have some at 250 feet and there are even drivers now that are over 2,000 feet! you can use repeaters if you have to drive longer distances. Regards, Dean
