My prices may be dated. Choices are:

1 Poured epoxy floor installtion cost is fairly fixed material cist depends on thickness (10 to 120 mils). A 40 mil floor will fill in the "milling" necessary to prepare the floor. This will runs about $3 a square installed in the US. Suppliers are:

2 Tile floor costs $5 a square installed and it lasts forever. Suppliers are:

VPI 800.874.4240 3M 800.858.5373 Forbo 800.342.0604 fax 717.450.0258

3 Carpet tile costs about $8 a square installed, lasts forever, can be moved, and is very quiet. Two suppliers are:

VPI 800.874.4240 United Technical Products (Computile & Versitile) 800.225.6052 fax617.821.4127 Chris Hughes

4 Tile sheets cost about $5 a square installed, lasts forever, and can be moved. Suppliers are:

Lonseal 800.832.7111 fax310830.9986 Plastic systems 508.485.7390 Freudenberg Building Systems 800.332.6672 Westek

5 Laminate sheet cost about $3 a square installed, lasts forever, and can be moved. Desco Industries 909.598.2753 is the only suppler I know.

6 Thin coat epoxy paints are cheap and easy to put on the floor. There are lots of suppliers. Two are:

Centimark 412.444.4585 Mark Harrison Static Control Products 800.356.2728 fax2729

7 Floor polish is cheap to install, doesn't last long in traffic areas, and is difficult to monitor. Suppliers are:

Prostat 708.238.8883 fax9717 Charles Water 617.821.8370 fax 575.0172 ACL Staticcide 800.782.8420 fax 847.981.9278 Legge 800.345.3443 fax 800.332.2636 Desco 909.598.2753 fax 595.7028

Go with the carpet tiles. They damp all the noises in the factory so you can speak at normal decibles, talk on the telephone without asking the other party to yell at you, and are lots more comfortable to work on, reducing operator fatigue.

Now, these seem like small, unquantifiable benefits for the premium you pay, but if you are just setting up a factory, it's a lot easier to go with the carpet up front than to try to justify it in two years.

IT'S WORTH EVERY CENT. You won't see all your operators sitting down near the end of the shift. And you won't be in your cube, either!
