DI water

We've been using a newly installed DI re-circulating system. It's been a big headache. Mostly understanding what causes our resistivity to be unpredictable. I think I've got a handle on that part now. The system consists of a Carbon,HMR(chealet),Cation, Anion, tanks re-circulated. I want to re-design the system, mostly adding a mixed bed and removing the HMR(chealet)tanks. Currently were using this for our TH-hole line only but will soon be using it on our SMT also. I'm sorry for all the words,I'm new. THE QUESTION:

Is there anyone else NOT using an HMR/chealet(heavy metals recovery)tank (lead etc..) in their DI system?

Dennis, I am currently not using a Chealet filter in my DI system. Our system consists of carbon, cation, anion and mixed bed. We maintain a resistivity of 17 megohms and are getting about 3-4 mths out of our tanks. We are also using our system for thru hole and SMT assemblies. We havenot, as of yet, had problems with regenerating our filters due to heavy metals (knock on wood) At this point, it looks like we dont need the chealet.

Resistivity is above 15 Megs and I rotate one of the two mixed beds out about every 6 weeks, I clean an average of 60,000 boards a month both PTH and SMT. I keep the water circulating 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.

Do either of you dump your water?--i.e. first tank from washer, or once a day or a month or never? The reason I'm asking is that I'd like to remove the chealet tanks, but if I recirculate continusly and say dump once every 3 months, without chealet tanks, will I have accumulated metals(lead) that our city won't want all at once, whereas over time(each day) would ok, or will the small amount if any be picked up by me other tanks(Cr,Cat,An)?

Any lead in the water will be picked up by the the resin, any lead that's heavy gets accumulated in my trap tank prior to being pumped into my recirculation tanks (I'm running a two pump setup). I clean my trap out about once a month & dump it in my hazardous material drum labeled "Lead". US Filters treats the resin tanks as containing lead and handles them accordingly - for a price.
