Determining value of used SMT equipment | 2 November, 2000

My company is is the process of outsourcing our SMT operation and we will ne salvaging (selling) our equipment - this is not a solicitation. I am trying to find a source to determine the value of the equipment. Is there an industry source for used values or are there any rules of thumb that could be applied

One thing you might consider is requesting quotes from used equipment brokers. A list of brokers is in the fine SMTnet Archives.

You need to contact several different providers of alternative solutions. Ask them what current fair market value for your equipment would be if it were sold to an end user (customer). You will definitely receive a higher ROI from an end user than a broker/reseller.

1) You also may want to contact your OEM to see if there is interest in purchasing the equipment. You did not state the age or condition of your equipment but the OEM's are buying back machines and refurbishing them for resale. The long lead times OEM's are facing, used machines help help bridge gaps in new sales. 2) The Company you are out sourcing to willing to purchase the Functioning line(s)? 3) As far as a "Blue Book" value I dont know of any.
