differentiation for board handling equipment | 31 October, 2000

What defines the Cadillacs and BMW's of board handling equipment? This industry seems to meet conditions for being commodity, and it is difficult to differentiate one line from another. But talking to people, alot of the same names come up. My thesis is that equipment made for cell site manufacturing that is SMEMA compatible (either 2.1 or SRFF or both) is key, but I would appreciate some feedback from end users!

the same differences that seperate Cadillac and BMW's in the auto world. Lines, look, performance, convienence, sound. A conveyor with wires, hoses, loud solenoids, are undesireable. Of the three main ones I use I like Autoveyor, robust, well priced, excellent features. DongGi - don't like. Flimsy, finicky. Nu Tek are good but compare the prices. I guess you would buy a "Rolls Royce" if that part of the line is fully automated, without any human intervention. Otherwise a "VW" will do the job.
