Is there any industry standards regarding shelf life for components? Also do they very between component type packaging? Thanks

| Is there any industry standards regarding shelf life for components? Also do they very between component type packaging? | Thanks No, but generally, the shelf life of components depends on the environmental conditions of the storage area. So, in a hot and humid storage area: Boards will absorb more moisture Component leads will develop more corrosion ... than components in a lower temperature/humidity area. Re: Component Shelf Life | 29 August, 2002

What are other testing/process step that we should do if we where to use the old date code QFPs other than solderability and baking ?

What is the plating composition normally %? lead, % tin etc. I have my policy not to accept the more than 12 months old part, but the supplier wants it 18 mnths..what should I do, the problem is this is the sole supplier.

Pls help.

Re: Component Shelf Life | 29 August, 2002

This is one reason why I don't like to open old threads.

Anywho. The operative words are sole source, eh?

We do not have the luxury of being selective about the date of manufacture of components. We just ecstatic to receive them: * With enough time to complete the build plan. * Without leads that are bent real badly. * With leads that solder. * Bla bla bla

If parts solder well, theyre good.

NORMAL PLATING COMPOSITION => Tough to say. TI used Pd. Ask your supplier.

You said that you were sole sourced. Are you in need of a second source for crystals or oscillators? My company manufactures these components. send me an e-mail if you are interested.

Re: Component Shelf Life | 8 September, 2002

Component distributors now have access to a simple technical packaging which can actually eliminate shelf-life and corrosion without the use of chemicals. Why it's remained such a secret till now is beyond me, but its something I'd like help to spreading the word about.

Static Inetercept is detailed on our websute at http://www.dasalintercept.com You may contact me personally for the techniclal papers
