Operator mistakenly used No Clean paste instead of Clean. | 19 July, 2002

Hi,

I know this is a total screwed-up.

Operator used the wrong paste. It was supposed to be a clean paste but she was issued with no clean paste. What happen was when the brd processed thru', after the reflow, the girl passed the boards thru' DI wash. Results : white residue on the joints. My questions:

1) from what I know, this white residue is not harm to the product or product reliability, is that right ?

2) what is this white residue material (chemically )?

3) Can Saponifier wash, helps? If not what is the best solution to remedy this white residue.

4) can this white residue grow over the time ?

Hope to hear from you experts.

cheers.. zambri

Search the fine SMTnet Archives. There's been a couple of threads on this in the past six months. Responding:

1) from what I know, this white residue is not harm to the product or product reliability, is that right ? => Probably

2) what is this white residue material (chemically )? => Natural or synthetic rosin

3) Can Saponifier wash, helps? If not what is the best solution to remedy this white residue. => Probably a saponifier will work. Some NC flux residues cannot be cleaned, though.

4) can this white residue grow over the time ? => No. It has reacted and is what it it is to be.
