Short Circuit Ceramic Chip Caps | 25 August, 2003

We are currently seeing short circuits on both 100nF and 1uF capacitors from TDK circa 2001. There are known design limitations to the PCB resulting in mechanical stress, howevre this PCB has been built for several years and this is a new phenomenon.

In summary has anyone else been seeing this problem on TDK caps of this vintage.

We don't see very much MCC shorting, except after over-voltage. We see much more in the opens category.

Were these puppies shorted out of the box?
