Does anyone have any Siemens placement process optimization for picking and placing 0402's, especially the resistors. Any response is greatly appreciated.

It's been a while since we placed a lot of 0402s, and I'm a bit out in the woods anyway so you ought to log on to http://www.siplace.com and get yourself a username and pasword so you'll have access to their DMS (documents system). I just did a quick search and found a couple of documents about placing 0402s. If I recall the key thing that will save yourself a bunch of heartache is to use ceramic 701/901 or 725/925 nozzles and to use your best S type feeders with the little support thingies under the pick points. You'll find all sorts of info about having the cameras check the nozzles for contamination etc but I think a lot of that stuff is overkill.

Brian- I think you are correct. To place 0402 components Siemens usess a "Shim" under the carrier tape. 0402 components can be used with a standard 8mm feeder with the shim

Also, Steffan still works on a fair amount of Siemens products and checks SMTnet often...he will post soon

Absolutely, 0402s are no problem and should not require any special modifications. However, you will find, that not all 0402s are the same. I have users, who created 5 different GF-packages with different dimensions and light contrast. With small components such as 0402s and smaller, you may want to look for feeder modification on the 03 series with the drawer. The drawer supposed to collect the components, which may fall into the gear upon component refill.
