We are in the process of purchasing a mole for our reflow oven. We've only looked at one model and it works well however, my accountablilty partners desire that we look at other options before we make the decision. Looking at about 3k.

Opinions from anybody with experiances would be appreciated.

OK all you sales guys, here's your chance. Call me or email me with suggestions. So far, Datapaq is the only one we've looked at.

Hey Matt

We manufacture reflow equipment and use all types of profilers. We currently use ECD, KIC, and DataPaq in our testing depending on how our customers want to see the data.

In my experience they are all good systems. I have not really run accross a bad profiler. It comes down to personal preference on how you want to see the data and what you want to do with the data. The software interface is the key, and each company has a different hook.

No matter what you do, getting a profiler is the RIGHT thing to do. Set up a continuous profile program to verify everything is ok in the process. Can't fix what you don't know is wrong. I would get some sample software from each profiler company and try it out. Also check out local support.

ECD has some advantages in terms of upgrade path. Once you buy the ECD SuperM.O.L.E., you can use it in a OvenRIDER, WaveRIDER and ReworkRIDER products. The OR, WR and RR are solder machine management devices for solder process control. Where profilers are product specfic, the RIDERs are machine specific. KIC and ECD are like Ford & GM. Software and capabilities are very similiar. I do not know much on Datapaq to comment. Check out http://www.kicthermal.com and http://www.ecd.com

Matt, are you still just doing SIPAD? If so, Manncorp has a profiler for about $1k It requires a p.c. to be hooked up while profiling and it won't take data points any faster than 1 point every 2 seconds. but could be adequate for your needs. (www.manncorp.com) Otherwise I recommend ECD, you can probably find a used thinline for about $3k

I have used MOLE for over ten years. I do not like the fact that MOLE wants you to use their connectors. I make a gender changer that converts the MOLE connector to the mimi OMEGA connectors that sell for about $1.75 each.

I would advise against purchasing Datapaq products. I have used KIC and Datapaq, KIC makes a superior product. Support from Datapaq is very poor. I have personally spoken to others in the industry with similar bad experiences with Datapaq. If you want a good product with no regrets, stay away from Datapaq.

I would also have to suggest that you do not purchase a Datapaq unit. The company I currently work for has one and it is a pain to use when compared to the MOLE. I feel the software is not as user friendly as the MOLE.

We have always had excellent results with Datapaq. What are the problems you've had?

FYI: We did an evaluation with Data Paq VS KIC. DataPaq won hands down...... I am really interested to hear.
