Lead-free solder

Hi everyone! I am looking for a lead-free solder that will survive a customer reflow of 260C. I am currently using SN10/Pb88/Ag02 but the reflow temperature is to high (320C) for the FR4 boards that we have. I know there are higher temp FR4 boards out there but it comes down to a cost issue. Does anyone know of a solder that might work?

try Indium Corp's SMQ230. http://ncsmq230.indium.net/

Peak "on board" temps of 229C with good wetting have been obtained.

What do you mean the solder must "survive" 260C? What is your target temperature? Is it dictated by a component, the substrate or the solder alloy?

Do you require a eutectic alloy? If not, the selection of alloys grows.

(these are from memory...no warranty expressed or implied) Tin/Anditmony MP230C-236C Pasty range. Tin/silver mp221C Tin/silver/copper mp218C Tin/copper 227C Tin-bismuth 138C to 176C depending on ratios

There are a hundred alloys to choose from...

What is the application?

I need solder that has a solidus temp. of approximately 260C so that when sent through a second reflow of 260C the solder doesnt become liquidus. However, I need the max reflow to be less that 300C because of the substrate.

Where does the 260 Deg. C spec. come from that you mention?

You ned to speak with an apps engineer from a paste supplier that can go through their alloys. I know Indium has such alloys. Any vendor should be able to supply you a list of alloys avbl in NC paste with their liquidous points.

Tin antimony mp = 236-240C 80Au / 20SN mp = 280C sn25 Ag10 sb = 365C

There are very few high temperature service alloys.

how about filling a 1400lb pot with 80% Gold! What is the application?
