Downloaded some brochures and from the looks of it, it looks quite impressive and simple to use. However, given the $7K pricetag, it's out of the reach of small companies like myself.

Thanks Rob, $7k, for a bag of silly putty with a magnet! This is supposed to be the same cost as tooling pins and much cheaper than dedicated tooling? I can't remember ever spending 7k on tooling unless I had 20 unique plates made. I wonder how many tooling pins a guy could get for that price?

The gel looks strangely like the stuff coming out of the rear end of little rubber toy pigs I bought for $1. You squeeze the pig and the gel comes out of it's ass, release the pressure and it goes back in... hours of fun! But seriously, this gel must cost at most a buck a pound. You could make your own by getting those gel insole and cutting them to size and glueing the pieces on magnets. Or just recycle those gel wrist rest that you can place in front of keyboards. Same texture. Don't get me wrong, the idea is good, just the price seems unreasonable.

Now that is creative!

I going to talk to my machinist. I need a bar of aluminum machined to accept 24 pigs (ass up of course). Then I need a "squeezing" mechanism to apply a proportional pressure to the pigs abdomen to make the "ass gel" support the board. when I market this product it will be called "PAG" support (pig ass-gel)!

I wonder if pig ass-gel is esd dissapative?

Hi This Pig stuff sounds funny, but from my pass experience with what people are buying now days, you will get more orders than you can handle. You can sell some of these people any thing. As long as it is cheap they will buy it, even if it won't work.

Oh, and $9K to $12K is a good price for a block that raises pins up and down by air, don't forget the tips on the pins too. Its all high priced stuff. Value is the key I guess.

Guy,s For about the same money, Grid-lok offers a fully automatic system that easily installs onto the printers and P&P. It can be set to your board instantly by pressing one button or triggered by the printer to set for each consecutive PCB. They will usually let you try a system at no cost. The product is endorsed by most of the major machine OEM's. There is some info on http://www.grid-lok.com

I am working on my own tooling that has a gel interface for DS PCB's right now, for a lot less $$, it should work for a P&P and a printer with a little modification. I am hoping to get it early next week and try it out. I'll let you how it turns out.
