Where can I find the "hours run" timer on this oven. Can't locate a physical timer. Is there one located in the software?

I have people ask me on occasion how many hours an oven has run and for the life of me can't figure out why they would want to know that. Who cares? They work until they don't...not much middle ground...unlike a chipshooter which will reach a point to where you know things need to be addressed. I have a 1994 Conceptronics that has changed hands three times...was run quite a bit and looks beautiful. I also have seen year 2000 ovens that look like trash. Hours mean nothing on these machines.

Directors and company owners care since they're buying it. It's like an odometer on a car - just an indicator. But like your chipshooter example, moving parts on an oven wear out too. They just don't stop working. Plus they're subjected to higher temps and stresses.

Like you you state in your example, clean ovens are always desirable over fluxed up one. But naturally you'd buy the clean oven 1000 hours on it versus the one with a million, it's just common sense.

I''ll put your answer into the "I don't know" category.

I would think that parts in an oven with many hours on it are due to fail sooner than those in one with fewer (Mfg. year aside). If properly maintained, a year 2000 oven with 5000 hours sounds better than a year 2000 oven with 50000.

Allow me to re-state my response. Hours on an oven would be the last thing I would care about if I wanted to know something about it. There is no standard lifespan on heaters, blowers and the like. They can last a year or ten. Sure you can assume a 5 year old oven will fail sooner then a 2 year old one but if you need an hour meter to determine that you need to pull your head out of the sand. You've got to find out how often they ran it, what kind of flux was used and what exactly did their PM schedule include. Then you get in front of it and check the rails for parallelism, overall cleanliness etc.

I think I know where you're going on this....your company wants to buy an oven but doesn't want to pay for a new one so your boss has given you the job of locating one. Now you've found one but you don't want to incure the costs of traveling to inspect so you think by getting an hour meter count you are doing your due diligence. Believe me I've seen ovens that had no more than 1,500 hours on them that were trashed. Be careful.

Oh...to answer your question they probably don't have an hour meter as it likely never crossed Electrovert's minds to install one.

Nope, no hour meters on Electrovert OmniFlo series ovens. I concur with Fastek's comments. Never buy a machine without performing a physical inspection. Post question like: What should I look for in an inspection of an OmniFlo oven? First off, it must be powered up so you can run a reflow recipe.

Sorry Pete (and others), they do have em'. Back side of the oven. Open the doors with the power supply switch and it's right next to the power relay. Little digital ones on the Omni Flo series.

Nope, our company is selling the ovens and several interested people have asked the question. Sorry if I busted your scenario of me - it kinda cracked me up. But I figured since every other piece of surface mount equipment I've encountered had an hour counter on it, I should at least try and get the interested people an answer - due diligence. I agree, buying any piece of used equipment is a roll of the dice. The hours are just like an odometer reading on a car, that's all. It doesn't garantee anything but can be used to compare to others in the same catagory.

So if anyone is interested in a slightly used oven that was only used for adhesive cures on Sundays by a little old lady making hearing aids for her church, let me know.

Oh yeah, Electrovert has installed them on their equipment for years. Even seen em' on their wave-cut-wave machines from way back.

Hi All

I work for the supplier mentioned above and just want to pass along some info.

OmniFlo ovens use to have timers. They were located at in the electrical box and not in the software but a "mechanical" timer. These were removed from the ovens back in 1998 time frame since they were really not much use. They were intended for warranty periods and determine how long an oven was operating. The concept was "3 years or xxxxx number of hours" but no one ever looked at them so it was of no use.

When looking at used ovens really dig into it. Make sure you run profiles and work the whole system to be sure it is what you want. Also check with the supplier on support for the product and spares if needed.

According to one of Electrovert's reflow engineers, hour meters have not been installed "for quite some time". So, I stand corrected, older OmniFlo series ovens may have hour meters.
