My system is too slow while we click some icons/programs,it is too late to get page open.If I click another link/icon,its too slow.I want to know the solution.Will I get increased speed after adding a memory card,what are specs/model for this memory card which need to be added.Tell me the best place to shop this memory card. What these figures represent? Kingston KVR133x64C3/128 (4No. ICs:0246PT09,D1616ST-75) ( 54 Pins/IC) Do I consider latency while purchasing memory module.

If you have a virus protection software in place it is likely slowing your system down to a crawl. Disable it and see if your results are better. You can also do a ctrl+alt+del. Go to "Processes" and take a look at what is bringing down your speed. Hope this helps.

After inserting 128 MB,168 Pin,PC100-222-620 (AZEN RAM)(taken out from another computer) alongside present Kingston KVR133x64C3/128,this data is copied from Systeminfo.txt file and for your kind review/suggestions.

Total Physical Memory: 126 MB Available Physical Memory: 32 MB Virtual Memory: Max Size: 2,048 MB Virtual Memory: Available: 2,003 MB Virtual Memory: In Use: 45 MB

Why I don't see figure of 256 MB RAM?

The following data achieved after pressing Control+Alt+Del and subsequent options:

Totals Handles 9734 Threads 412 Processes 45

Physical Memory Total 128816 Available 43360 System Cache 60976

Kernal Memory Total 33128 Paged 26892 Nonpaged 6236

Commit Cahrge Total 221792 Limit 507376 Peak 247072

PF Usage: 216 MB CPU Usage: 5%

An Experiment of Using SDRAM PC 100 -128 MB in PC133-128MB Slot | 28 June, 2005

Motherboard:Intel: D845GLLY requiring PC133,128MB I done all 3 possible cases: I-Inserted AZEN RAM PC100,128 MB in Slot#1 with Kingston PC133,128MB in Slot#0,it read 126 MB. II-Inserted PC100 only in Slot#0,it read only 64 MB and Ssystem was excessively Slow but working.Why PC100,128 MB reading only 64MB? III-Restore Status-I to get reasonable Speed andmemory,

I did not touch connectors fearing ESD from my body may damage module.How can I clean it?Can I clean it by Alcohol?

1st Consider the time involved with upgrading and troubleshooting!

Is it worth it? With prices of PC's near to nothing, it may prove cheaper and easier just to purchase new system!

However, Your last Post mentioned mixing of 100 and 133 Rams! Unless youve set back the speed to the lower ram, (100MHz) then this may be cause of only recognizing the 128! I would suggest looking at Mother board and using DDR's. 133 SD's are slow! Get a bigger and Faster hardrive, 7200 and 10,000 RPM will zip you along!

Next Clean all the unecessary programs and waste from PC. Windows XP is a hog when it comes to user resources! As Fastek mentions Virus scanners also chew up memory and performance!

Registry Problems cause excessive slowdowns for any PC. goto http://www.registryfix.com and get the free scanner. It will scan entire PC for corruption, but will only repair the first three blocks. Youll have to purchase the software to repair all! I guarantee this will speed up your system! I use it religously at home and work, it will solve most problems with any PC!

But Your best Bet is to pick up a new system! Get more speed, more ram, bigger drive! All of these added up to increased performance!

How can I set back the speed to the lower ram, (100MHz)? Get a bigger and Faster hardrive, 7200 and 10,000 RPM will zip you along! (What these figures represent ,explain pls?)

I have Cleaned all the unecessary programs and waste from PC. U right I have many Virus scan softwares,but I am not getting a reasonable speed even after enhaced scanning and fixing.

128MB in any system is ridiculous these days. While we have some machines at work on the production floor that only have 128 - they're only used to view BOM's, etc.

Check http://www.pricewatch.com and buy yourself 1GB of RAM for no more than $100. Take out whatever you have in there now - that should be more than sufficient. I wouldn't worry about latency too much. The difference in speed between different types of RAM will be negligible when compared to sticking a decent amount of RAM in your machine. A 1.8ghz machine, while not top-of-the-line, isn't a slow machine for day-to-day tasks. You'd probably also do well to look into programs like Spybot & Adaware to clean out some memory hogs you may have lurking around. Check the stuff running in your system tray - often there's a lot of useless junk sitting there as well, just eating resources.

Alternatively, Dell *always* has 2.6ghz/256mb+ machines for $300.

Setting Speed for Ram is usually in the BIOS set up, Pressing DEL key, or F1, or ESC should bring you into the screen. It will usualy tell you on boot up. Look in there for the setting.

Other times its a jumper setting on the motherboard.

7200 & 10,000 RPMs are the rotation speed of newer hardrives. The higher the speed, quicker the access time.

XP needs at least 256Mb of RAM, preferably 512. I think 1Gb would be overkill, especially with a 133 memory speed.

It sounds like a dual boot configuration...if you don't need W98 on the machine, why don't you just dump it and get a clean install of XP? It would be much more stable and less crowded on your hard drive.

While your AV will slow things down, I don't think that's your only problem, and with enough memory and a slimmed down HD it would mostly likely run just fine.

But, yes, a new cheap desktop does sound like the best answer doesn't it?
