Are there any pros or cons in regards to jars or cartridges for sodler paste dispensing and handling?

-Cartridges will fit an auto dispenser on the screen printer or a hand dispenser. Will waste some paste at the bottom of the cartridge. -Jars will be a little harder to deal with. They are messy. Can get all but the last couple of grams of the paste out.

Cartridges/dispenser systems supply even paste volume to the screen. This will help provide the most consistent squeegee roll as well as paste deposition on PCB. Messier, though = much printer maintenance. Some people also like to use a caulking gun in combination with cartridges to apply fresh paste to the screen. This method provides fairly consistent volume, low exposure to air prior to use and eliminates dispenser system maintenance.

My operators much prefer the cartridges. Better control of application and a lot less messy. The paste seems to even print better. We used jars for seven+ years, would really hate to go back to them.

With Jars you tend to mix used paste back in with new paste and there is also a lot of air in the jar. If you are high mix try using cartridges and putting the used paste in little ziplock baggies. You can rip the baggies open including tearing the seams and scrape the paste back off with a putty knife to re-use without mixing it back with new paste. I would only use it for boards with no fine-pitch parts on them and date the bags so you dont let them sit around to long. Jars are bad news, I would never go back to them.
