My compnay is looking for a good production AOI machine. We are looking in the $45k to $75k range. We have seen a few and feel that the Mirtec machine for $69k is a great machine. Anyone have any feelings on this machine or a machine of the same features for less? Thanks for your input.

It's comparable to YesTech. Maybe check them out. Just ask who should operate it!

I worked for a company with a Mirtec. It's a great machine. The sales guy kept going on about needing a golden board. But if you program very carefully and verify each part as you add it to the library, you don't even need a golden board. If you have a golden board the programing is quick and easy. One recommendation I would make is try to have it two to three weeks for the learning curve before putting it into full usage. I would recommend that for any machine.

Good Afternoon,

Several of my customers own the Mirtec and they all have great things to say about it. You can also look at YesTech and Orbotech (But these may be a little more expensive).

No Matter which machine you pick, I would love to be able to help finance it for you. I am with PlainsCapital Leasing and we are a bank-owned, direct financing source for the Electronic Manufacturing Industry (we are not brokers). I would appreciate the opportunity to compete for your business. Just to give you and idea for a deal this size I can have an answer for you withing 24 hours. Thank you for your time and please feel free to contact me with any questions that you may have.

Sincerely,

Mo Tavackoli Business Development Manager Ph: 214-775-4618 mtavackoli@plainscapital.com www.plainscapital.com

Good Morning,

We have 4 Mirtec machines currently. We use them in our standard SMT, Lead Free and Through Hole area's. We use them for 1st pc. pre-reflow verification and 100% post reflow inspection.

I recommend them highly. We have had extremely good luck with them.

Good Luck

Chris

we looked at the mirtec when we were selecting our AOI machine, it is a good machine, we eventually settled on an MVP GEM, comparable price but very powerful machine, we place down to 16thou pitch and 0402 and the MVP's solder joint inspection on these parts is excellent. worth looking into before you decide

I looked at Yestech and Mirtec. Evaluated both products and decided for Mirtec. After using the system for a couple of months I decided to send it back. There is a lot of problems with bugs in the software, falls calls are in the high numbers and the support is not good at all. The machine is not stable at all. I am now going back to Yestech as the software seemed much more stable from the beginning and easier to lower false calls.

We have 2 Mirtec machines. The learning curve is steep, but once you get over that the machine is very valuable. I must disagree with the commenter who said the support is poor. While the answers we rcvd differed from person to person at first, Mirtec has really gotten their act together over the past few months. Rob in particualr (poster in this thread) was very helpful, even though we as a company are very high maintenace. I can fully recommend the Mirtec. It is a great value for the money.

Dear Mr Duckman,

Please disregard the statement written by csommers. We at MIRTEC have no record of any of our machines being evaluated by any company for a two month period and returned under the criteria as stated by csommers. Quite frankly, we find this statement to be 100% fictitious in nature and extremely offensive.

This is a highly respected technical forum to be used by companies who are looking to gain useful information regarding product integrity.

Unfortunately there are some individuals that under the umbrella of anonymity, make claims and statements that are outright slanderous. This is one of them.

You are more than welcome to speak with any or all of our customers regarding the integrity and reliability of our products and our technical support staff. Again feel free to contact me if I can be of any further assistance

Respectfully,

Robert Horowitz MIRTEC r.horowitz@mirtecusa.com

Good Morning,

We are currently using 4 Mirtec machines. We decided on the Mirtec after a side by side evaluation of several tabletop machines. I have to admit that Yestech was not one of them. However, after the evaluation, the Mirtec outperformed the evaluated competition and we decided to go with them.

Long story short, we have just about eliminated SMT RMA's. I have full confidence in the machines. We have put a procedure in place that we are not manually inspecting for Presence/Absents, value, polarity and position on a board that has been inspected on the Mirtecs. We are inspecting for solder as IPC requires a heel fillet on gull wing leads and there is no single camera system that will verify this condition.

Some personal opinions: The platform is very stable. We would not be able to run the volume that we are if they were not.

I consider Mirtec to have one of the best service teams out of all of the capitol equipment that I am involved with.

Mirtec listens to customer requests: I can say that there are at least 20 features in the software that I have asked for.

There is a learning curve. If the false calls are high, you are not programming correctly. All programs require maintenance (alternate vendors, alternate part markings) If you set the matching percentage low, you will get no false calls but you will increase the possibility of accepting an incorrect component. In the same respect, if you set the matching percentage to high, the false call rate will increase but the probability of a false accept is eliminated. The key is finding where you need to be. If you are making lighters, the tolerance can probably be relaxed but if you are making life critical devices, you would want to make sure that there is not an incorrect component.

Once again, I have never evaluated a Yestech so I cant comment on strengths or weaknesses but I completely disagree with the statement that the Mirtec platform is unstable, service is poor and the software is buggy.

The President of the company told me that management feels this is the best money we have ever spent. I agree.

Just my $.02

Good Luck

Holiday Greetings,

Are you looking for in-line or benchtop AOI? My company, Testronics had decided a few years back to only produce benchtop AOI systems. If a benchtop system is suitable for your application might we request you take a look at our AOI?

We have just introduced a new AOI system that costs $35k.

Please feel free to contact me off the forum for technical details.

Have a great holiday,
