Here's a few mfrs. to look at.

http://www.vjelectronix.com/vjebeta/index.asp

http://www.glenbrooktech.com/advantage.htm

http://www.lixi.com/product_workstation.htm

http://www.focalspot.com/

http://www.microfocus-x-ray.com/frameset.php?PageName=products〈uage=en&Issue=1&NavigationId=4

http://www.feinfocus.com/index.php?id=709

http://www.dage-group.com/xray/

http://www.xtekxray.com/

X-ray power (kV), focal spot size (micro or nano), true image train magnification, manipulator (tilt and angle imaging) and software are main criteria for equipment selection. What features and options that are best for your customers depend on what your X-ray needs are. If your customer is just looking at board level bumped packages (BGA) of more course pitch and have no metal on components to penetrate, then a lower power micro focus system will do, and is lower cost (sub $50K). But if they need to image components and ultra-fine pitch chip-scale packages and components have metal heat sinks, then a high power system, up to 130kV may be required. P{rice ranges are $90K to $160K. I prefer sealed tube X-ray sources, but there are arguments for open tubes. If the system is only going to be used on an intermittent basis, and not for 6 to 10 hours per day, then sealed tubes are better in my view. You should get 7 to 10 years of use if cared for properly. Yes, you can get a smaller spot size with an open, but how small do you need to get is the question- is it of value?

Happy Hunting.

I think alot of those X-Ray machines out there "over-emphasize" BGA analysis. It'll measure every aspect of the BGA, like size of voids, percent voids, how many voids, cumulative sum of the voids, shape and geometry of voids, statistical distribution of voids,etc...

IMO, it's pretty ri-gott-damn-diculous. BGA's aren't THAT complicated, that you need a 14'x 20'(footprint) X-Ray machine out there that'll do "paralysis by analysis" on stinkin' BGA's, which incidentally is an over 10-year-old technology already. If you still can't place and solder a regular Sn-Pb BGA correctly, you've got issues, pal...To analyze a BGA, just give me a simple, table-top 2d, transmissive X-Ray, and an ERSA scope.

Now, personally, I like Agilent's 5DX X-Ray Laminography because it looks at ALL solder joints. When programmed correctly, it does a great job of detecting those all-too-common complanarity issues on gull-winged devices. Go to Agilent's website and check it out.

E-Z Samir! He's just lookin' for an X-ray REP. He's not carrying the "X-Ray cures all BGA problems" banner.

Usually the nurse/patient thing is due to the nurse really feeling sorry for the patient. And since Riyadh is the capital for mental institutions, I can only assume she is really attractive.

The end of support of the 5DX is only for the Series IIL system.

The series 3 and Series 5000 are still supported. The support included Technical support and parts support.
