A few things that will determine the speed.

Camera Questions: Will the parts use the "On-The-Head" or "Upward-Looking" camera's? If "Upward-Looking", will it be Standard or Digital?

Feeder Questions: Will you use pnuematic, low-cost electric, or precision pro feeders?

General Questions: Will the machine be the line or part of a multiple machine line? What is the component mix of the products you run?

If you just want a number: small parts : 11K-12K medium parts : 8K-9K large parts : 5K-6K

I would agree with JAX for a general estimate. If you have a few specific boards Universal can put them in a simulator and give you pretty close estimates. I would reccomend you go to thier NY facility and actually run some boards and get to know the people there. We bought one about 5 months ago. The accuracy on picks and placements is exceptional and all the people I have delt with have treated us in a manner that was beyond my expectations. You may also want to look at a AC-30. If your component range is a fit with that machine, it is much faster. We have both in line. There is a video clip of our AC-30 running on adltech.com if your interested in seeing it running. (I only mention this because last I knew, Universal does not have a clip on thier site)

Thanks JAX and Cmiller. I have spec'd "on the head" optics 2.6 mpp. No upward cameras but might "wire" it for magellan digital for future add-on. Will be buying/using prec. pro. feeders but might have to use some old GSM pneumatics from time to time as needed. This is a multi. machine line. The intent of this machine is to run the smaller parts. Cmiller - that video is pretty cool - thanks! Not sure if I want to go with lightning head as I could see this machine doing more flexible jobs/larger parts down the road - but, still thinking on all this...

The lightning head will place parts up to 30mm square but there is a height restriction and it will only pick from tape feeders, no trays, no vibes. It will put down QFP's at full speed and the placements are dead on.

I think you need an optional power supply on the AC-72 if you want to use the old feeders. They will be too slow to put on the AC-30 though. The precision Pro feeders work great.
