Quad IVC 115 Component placement. | 2 March, 2006

Hi,

We have recently purchased a Quad IVC 115 pick and place machine but are finding it difficult to place SOT23 and similar components. The Visual alignment system rejects the components. We have manually measured and also got the system to measure the components but it still rejects them. The only way we can place them is to turn off the visual alignment. Can anyone help?

Also while I am here we have a problem with the placement of 0402 components. The machine is specified to place them, which it does, but the feeders move two components at a time, again we have programmed the feeders to move their minimum amount. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

If you have an older machine that has cyberoptics you might want to try to put a pickup theta of 90. I believe there was a problem with that type of part. Also use non-leaded alignment and scan the part near the top of it. As for 0402 parts.........

1. You must have a VERY good feeder (repeatable) 2. You must use an 'xf' nozzle 3. The pickup must be taught perfect (this includes z-height) 4. The camera to nozzle offset must be at least 'good' 5. Turn of the vacuum verify circuit-----i cant remember the exact command but once you do it the v will be gone from v enter command. (i think its cntrl switch verify or shift switch verify)....wow its been so long.

good luck

oh....for the feeders moving 2 parts....you must teach a pickup repeat. Make an extent in the pickup editor and attach it to repeat with pick and make it a 2x1 with an 80 mil offset. The machine will then pick the part that is out of the sensor first.....then pick the part that in the sensor next.

Thank you very much. I swapped the component length and width measurements in Autoprogram and it now places the SOT23's with image verification no problem.

As for the 0402's I am still working on this. Pick and place is very new to me, well I started to learn about it two weeks ago when we got this machine, so I dont quite understand what Extents are etc. We have a sheet that came with the machine which says about teaching first and last pick ups for 0402's using rows and columns but this I cannot get to work.
